چکیده

Arrays of chemical oxidants are produced in healthy cells, where they function as important signaling molecules that are crucial in homeostatic regulation and cellular adaptation. The molecular basis of “redox signaling” is a series of oxido-reductive chemical reactions in which oxidants or reductants posttranslationally alter the structure of proteins. These modifications equate to signal sensing events, in which an alteration in protein redox status may couple to a change in its function. This coupling of sensing to function is a true transduction event, allowing conversion of the cellular redox state into altered enzymatic activities. Here we review redox signaling in the cardiovascular system, considering the variety of post-translational oxidative modifications that explain redox sensing and signal transduction by proteins at the molecular level.

Redox signaling in central neural regulation of cardiovascular function.

One of the most prominent concepts to emerge in cardiovascular research over the past decade, especially in areas focused on angiotensin II (AngII), is that reactive oxygen species (ROS) are critical signaling molecules in a wide range of cellular processes. Many of the physiological effects of AngII are mediated by ROS, and alterations in AngII-mediated redox mechanisms are implicated in cardi...

NOX signaling in molecular cardiovascular mechanisms involved in the blood pressure homeostasis

Blood pressure homeostasis is maintained by several mechanisms regulating cardiac output, vascular resistances, and blood volume. At cellular levels, reactive oxygen species (ROS) signaling is involved in multiple molecular mechanisms controlling blood pressure. Among ROS producing systems, NADPH oxidases (NOXs), expressed in different cells of the cardiovascular system, are the most important ...

Cardiac Cell Senescence and Redox Signaling

Aging is characterized by a progressive loss of the ability of the organism to cope with stressors and to repair tissue damage. As a result, chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease, increase their prevalence with aging, underlining the existence of common mechanisms that lead to frailty and age-related diseases. In this frame, the progressive decline of the homeostatic and reparative...

Mechanisms linking Mental Health Problems and Cardiac Disease: A Review

Psychological problems play a critical role in development of cardiovascular disease. Several mechanisms were suggested to explain the association and mechanism of this effect, recently. Knowledge of the mechanisms mediating the association between psychological status and heart disease could help in developing treatments. The effects of mind and mood on the cardiovascular system can be due to ...

Redox proteomics.

Proteins are major targets of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (ROS/RNS) and numerous post-translational, reversible or irreversible modifications have been characterized, which may lead to a change in the structure and/or function of the oxidized protein. Redox proteomics is an increasingly emerging branch of proteomics aimed at identifying and quantifying redox-based changes within the pr...

Lipid Rafts and Redox Regulation of Cellular Signaling in Cholesterol Induced Atherosclerosis

Redox mediated signaling mechanisms play crucial roles in the pathogenesis of several cardiovascular diseases. Atherosclerosis is one of the most important disorders induced mainly by hypercholesterolemia. Oxidation products and related signaling mechanisms are found within the characteristic biomarkers of atherosclerosis. Several studies have shown that redox signaling via lipid rafts play a s...
